This page documents the changes over time to the Configura Design System.
We use semantic versioning, which means we follow a standard format of MAJOR.MINOR.REVISION, incrementing:
- MAJOR version when there are significant foundational changes that result in breaking changes, guidelines interpretation, requiring major adoption efforts or substantial UX/Developer work to maintain compliance. These changes significantly impact the user experience or design paradigm.
- Example: Transitioning from flat design to skeuomorphism, or replacing the Component Tab concept with a new Object Library concept.
- MINOR version when significant new functionalities or principle adjustments are introduced in a backward-compatible manner. Users of the Design System should expect zero breaking changes, meaning existing designs remain compliant or have only minimal impact on the user experience.
- Example: Adding a new component like a Radio Button or implementing small refinements to the rule introduced in the latest major release.
- REVISION version when clarifications to existing policies without altering meaning, small fixes to the guidelines or minor structural changes to the documentation have been applied.
- Example: Correcting typos or relocating a document to a new folder.
This style of versioning aims to communicate to any stakeholders the scope of each release before they read the changelog, which is critical to maintain trust, show transparency, and keep everyone as informed as possible.
