CET New UI

About CET New UI

8min

CET is turning 20 this year!

Since our first release in 2004, the CET ecosystem has grown significantly, and we have seen technological advancements, evolving design paradigms, and shifting user expectations transforming the way we work.

However, our core mission remains - to be the world's most intelligent platform for designing sustainable, efficient, and beautiful spaces; and this mission drives every improvement we make.

While we reflect on our accomplishments, we also recognize an opportunity to stay in the forefront of innovation and put our users' experience first. To celebrate this anniversary, we are giving CET a fresh new look and rolling out a few upgrades that continue to make CET your favourite space planning solution.

Primary Goals

  • New Visual Design aims to modernize the CET experience you know and love, enhancing usability while paving the foundation for us to deliver new features.
  • UI Stability with backend improvements to improve user experience and general system performance; while users will have the choice to try the new UI while retaining access to the current interface.
  • UX Design Guidelines introduced to improve quality, design cohesion and user experience consistency across the platform.

What Changed?

In the last 15.0 (May 2024) release, we have released a facelifted CET experience that users will be able to opt-in.

In the upcoming 15.5 (Nov 2024) release, we will be turning on the new UI experience by default, while users will still retain the option to stay on the classic UI.

Technical details are contained in the 15.0 Migration Guide.

Design Principles

  • Most tools have stayed in the same place and functionalities are retained as much as possible. Any decisions about moving things were made with these principles in mind:
    • More drawing space
    • Grouping similar functions
    • Clear status (view mode, drawing space)
  • Cleaner spacing
  • Modern, consistent components & icons
  • Improved reliability and dialog performance (less flickering, etc)

There will be a "Try the New UI" Toggle switch - so you can decide when to learn the ropes, or go back if you don’t like it.

  • 15.5 (Nov 2024) it will be Opt-out (ON by default) for users.
  • 16.0 (May 2024) the toggle will be phased out, fully rolling out new UI mode.
